ABSTRACT

Through the last decade, and particularly after the Covid period (2020 - 2022), crowd counting and localization have attracted much attention of AI researchers due to its potential applicability in crowd monitoring and control, public safety, space design, interactive content delivery etc. Once delivery objectives for a system are envisaged and the premises are fixed, we can always construct manifold technology architecture that delivers the set goals. However, in the Indian context a solution of choice needs to be optimized on frugality and ease of adaptability. In this paper we report an economic and replicable application of crowd counting and interactive content delivery in museums through unbiased knowledge systems embedded in robotic museum assistants. We intend to demonstrate a robotic system that can deliver any gallery content to groups of visitors keeping special focus on the exhibits that are popular choices. Crowd counting is used here to enable the content presentation to a group of choice in an interactive way. There are some market-ready solutions available for interactive gallery demonstration by moveable robots but they require not only huge capital investment but are also of limited use within controlled environments. Our proposed design is to multiplex an existing infrastructure of surveillance system as a smart crowd counting and gallery demonstration system along with crowd management with minimum additional hardware infusion. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Current agricultural practices, food processing, and extensive availability of unhealthy "fast foods” impose a broad spectrum of degenerative disorders including bacterial, viral, parasitic, fungal, and yeast infections, all of which became a leading cause of death. An infection is defined as "The invasion and growth of germs in the body.” Several of these germs are opportunistic anaerobic organisms, while their propagation and proliferation potentiate the anaerobic bio-environment alarmingly. An ideal therapeutic objective is to restore a healthier cellular "aerobic” metabolic environment. This chapter will extensively focus on three important infectious disorders (i) COVID-19 infection, (ii) Herpesvirus infection, and (iii) Candida albicans yeast infections. Disease etiology, mechanisms, and pathology will be extensively discussed. Prevention and the potential of therapeutic interventions by structurally diverse nutraceuticals, phytopharmaceuticals, probiotics, and micronutrients will be extensively reviewed. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. ABSTRACT

Due to the excessive use of disposable face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, their accumulation has posed a great threat to the environment. In this study, we explored the fate of masks after being disposed in landfill. We simulated the possible process that masks would experience, including the exposure to sunlight before being covered and the contact with landfill leachate. After exposure to UV radiation, all three mask layers exhibited abrasions and fractures on the surface and became unstable with the increased UV radiation duration showed aging process. The alterations in chemical groups of masks as well as the lower mechanical strength of masks after UV weathering were detected to prove the happened aging process. Then it was found that the aging of masks in landfill leachate was further accelerated compared to these processes occurring in deionized water. Furthermore, the carbonyl index and isotacticity of the mask samples after aging for 30 days in leachate were higher than those of pristine materials, especially for those endured longer UV radiation. Similarly, the weight and tensile strength of the aged masks were also found lower than the original samples. Masks were likely to release more microparticles and high concentration of metal elements into leachate than deionized water after UV radiation and aging. After being exposed to UV radiation for 48 h, the concentration of released particles in leachate was 39.45 muL/L after 1 day and then grew to 309.45 muL/L after 30 days of aging. Seven elements (Al, Cr, Cu, Zn, Cd, Sb and Pb) were detected in leachate and the concentration of this metal elements increased with the longer aging time. The findings of this study can advance our understanding of the fate of disposable masks in the landfill and develop the strategy to address this challenge in waste management. ABSTRACT

In the face of the global pandemic of COVID 19, approaching 1.75 Million infected worldwide (4/12/2020) and associated mortality (over 108, 000 as of 4/12/2020) as well-as other catastrophic events including the opioid crisis, a focus on brain health seems prudent [1] (https://www.coronavirus.gov). This manuscript reports on the systemic benefits of restoring and achieving dopamine homeostasis to reverse and normalize thoughts and behaviors of Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) dysfunctional conditions and their effects on behavioral physiology; function of reward genes; and focuses on digestive, immune, eye health, and the constellation of symptomatic behaviors. The role of nutrigenomic interventions on restoring normal brain functions and its benefits on these systems will be discussed. We demonstrate that modulation of dopamine homeostasis using nutrigenomic dopamine agonists, instead of pharmaceutical interventions, is achievable. The allied interlinking with diverse chronic diseases and disorders, roles of free radicals and incidence of anaerobic events have been extensively highlighted. In conjunction, the role of dopamine in aspects of sleep, rapid eye movement and waking are extensively discussed. The integral aspects of food indulgence, the influence of taste sensations, and gut-brain signaling are also discussed along with a special emphasis on ocular health. The detailed mechanistic insight of dopamine, immune competence and the allied aspects of autoimmune disorders are also highlighted. Finally, the integration of dopamine homeostasis utilizing a patented gene test and a research-validated nutrigenomic intervention are presented. Overall, a cutting-edge nutrigenomic intervention could prove to be a technological paradigm shift in our understanding of the extent to which achieving dopamine homeostasis will benefit overall health.
